Crowd Control Barriers in Castle Hill

The Project

The new Castle Hill lifestyle and shopping district is under construction, bringing a redeveloped shopping mecca to Sydney’s Hills area. When complete, the ageing Castle Towers shopping centre will be transformed into a retail podium, with 3 residential towers above it along with two hotels and an office building. The area is expected to reach close to 200,000 square metres on completion.

During the project, the existing shopping centre has remained open and trading. Because of this, it was necessary for workers to cordon off areas where interior fit out was taking place. In particular areas, overhead services such as lighting and HVAC systems were being renovated, and it was critical that the public was not put at risk by entering into these areas. Additionally, excess building materials and supplies needed to be stored in common public areas, and these needed to be roped off from the public for safety.

The Solution

Fortress Fencing’s crowd control barriers a lightweight, low profile and easily installed barrier system that can keep the public out of no-go areas. Crowd control barriers were a perfect solution for this application as they are easy to set up with a simple pin and lock system. This means one panel easily slots into the next, and the feet slide into the bottom uprights. The feet are low profile ensuring trip hazards are minimised.

In this instance, crowd control barriers have been used at Castle Hill to cordon off areas with exposed ceiling space, as well as creating small storage zones for pallets of concrete and other building supplies.

These barriers are neat, visually appealing and unobtrusive whilst still being effective at keeping shoppers out of certain areas. As opposed to full height temporary fencing, the panels are 1.1 metres high which is perfectly adequate for purposes like this. A high visibility orange finish makes the fencing easy to see for safety.

Each 2.3m long barrier features a double interlocking hinge point that provides excellent stability. This hinge system makes installation quick and easy, and the removable feet can be taken off during stacking and storing. The feet also come with pre-drilled holes for bolt-down applications.
