The Project
The Parramatta Light Rail is one of the NSW Government’s latest major infrastructure projects being delivered to serve a growing community in Western Sydney.
The new light rail project is designed to connect communities and help both locals and visitors move around and explore what the region has to offer.
The Parramatta Light Rail will connect Westmead to Carlingford via the Parramatta CBD and Camellia, with a two way track spanning 12 kilometres. The route will link Parramatta’s CBD and train station to the Westmead Health Precinct, Cumberland Hospital Precinct, the Bankwest Stadium, the Camellia Town Centre, the new science and technology museum Powerhouse Parramatta, the private and social housing redevelopment at Telopea, Rosehill Gardens Racecourse and three Western Sydney University campuses.
By 2026, it is estimated that around 28,000 people will use Parramatta Light Rail every day, and an estimated 130,000 people will be living within walking distance of the new light rail stops. This project is expected to be operational in 2023.
The Challenge
Working in the heavily built up confines of Sydney’s second CBD presented a number of challenges for the contractors. The team needed to ensure that work sites were fenced off safely and that commuters and pedestrians could still access key areas throughout the busy city centre.
Access along busy traffic routes, through the middle of pedestrian malls and alongside existing roads needed to be established so that work could take place safely without undue risk to staff on site.
The use of a combination of tall temporary fencing panels and lower crowd control barriers would be important throughout the project, as construction moved from one site to the next and safe accessways needed to be cordoned off.
The Solution
The contractor has used a variety of Fortress Fencing products for this project, including Fortress Fencing temp fence panels, orange and galvanised steel crowd control barriers.
Our fencing and barrier solutions are used by infrastructure contractors Australia wide, with civil construction giants across the country choosing Fortress for fast, affordable, reliable service, and the best range of temporary fencing around.
